Courtin’ in the Kitchen (1998) continued Hadrian’s Wall’s exploration of traditional Scottish and Irish music while further refining the band’s distinctive sound. Recorded at Concept Studio in Kingston, Ontario, the album features energetic dance tunes, traditional songs and heartfelt ballads that became favourites during the band’s early years of touring throughout Canada and the United States.
The recording highlights the chemistry between Neil Emberg, Nelson MacPherson, Terry O’Farrell and Richard Irwin, while welcoming guest musicians Brian Flynn, Bruce Blaney and Kaley Mason. Traditional favourites such as “Courtin’ in the Kitchen,” “Road to Dalhousie,” “Coleman Jigs” and “Killiecrankie” are complemented by the original song “I Will Go,” reflecting the band’s growing confidence as performers and songwriters.
